What's Going on in the County:
  
Wildflower Weekend is at Pine Mountain Settlement School in Mid April. Hikes as well as nature lectures, photography, etc. for nature enthusiasts. Beautiful wildflowers.

Kentucky Coal Mining Museum Car and Truck Show is the first Saturday in May.

Kentucky Black Bear Festival is held in mid May. Activities are held at Kingdom Come State Park and the Cumberland Rotary Park in Cumberland.

Poke Sallet Festival is the first weekend in June. It is countywide. Activities are held in Harlan, the Tri-City area and the Evarts area.

Harlan Invitational Golf Tournament is the first weekend in June at the Harlan Country Club.

Tri-City Grand Reunion in Cumberland the second weekend in June.

Freedom Celebration in Cumberland on July 4. A spectacular fireworks show.

Shriner's Horse Show and Fair at Putney the first weekend in August.

Pine Mountain Settlement School Fair Day is the last Saturday in August. Crafts, baked goods, homegrown vegetables are brought to the fair.

Kingdom Come Swappin' Meetin' is at Southeast Community College in Cumberland the first weekend in October. Appalachian culture is celebrated during this event. There's craft and food vendors.

Coal Miners Appreciation Day is the second weekend in October. It is held at the Portal 31 in Lynch, Kentucky for the families of coal miners who worked in the coal mines at Benham and Lynch.

Fall Color Weekend is held at the Pine Mountain Settlement School the third weekend in October. Hikes and photography workshops are held during this event.

Family Elk and Outdoor Celebration is the third weekend in October at Camp Blanton on Watts Creek. Various outdoor recreational activities, food, games, as well as information concerning the elk restoration project.

The Festival of the Mountain Masters is Friday and Saturday Thanksgiving Weekend at the Village Center Mall. Mountain craftsmanship is demonstrated and displayed by artisans.

Downtown Tree Lighting and Caroling
is the first Friday in December in Harlan.

The Harlan County Christmas Parade is the first Saturday in December.

Nativity Play at Pine Mountain Settlement School is the second Sunday in December (also they may have a performance on the third Sunday in December). For more information concerning this, contact the Pine Mountain Settlement School.

The City of Evarts Christmas Parade is the first Sunday in December.
